Question by kishoti: What does addiction feel like to you?
I have not been addicted to anything but I work with people who are sometimes.
If you have a history of addiction or know someone very well who does, please describe what addiction feels like.

It feels like you do when you are very thirsty for a drink. You can’t get your mind off needing a drink of water, you can’t function without it, you can’t sleep because you need it so bad. And when you take that drink, you can move on because you finally feel alive.
Replace needing a drink of water with needing a drug, and that’s pretty much it. It’s that intense.
Edit: Someone who says they are addicted to chocolate has no idea what a real addiction feels like. It’s very different than that. When you don’t have chocolate, you want it, but you can go on without it. With drugs (like opiates, my drug of choice), if you don’t have it, you get very sick (worse than the flu) and it’s like the worst sickness you’ve ever had. Except it goes on and on for weeks. It’s pure hell. Very different than really needing a candy bar.
