Xanax is a nasty drug in the benzodiazepine family that is due to be removed fr the market. medicaid has dropped covering xanax as its terribly addictive and in fact its killing people as they eat xanax in conjuction w other drugs/alcohol. xanax is a benzo and terribly addictived and widely abused by many. xanax is in same family as ativans/valium/klononpin etc… they are used for anxiety and panic attacks and the bad part is that they store in the fatty tissue of the body making them hard to get off of as the withdrawal is terrible! after a few short doses of xanax when one discontinues using them they cannot sleep/cannot relax/they have rebound anxiety and rebound nervousness. xanax is used for short term relief and it hits quickly and last only for 3 or 4hrs. the problem is that these benzos are used for short term but folks get hooked on them and it happens to a lot of folks unfortunately. the xanax requires multiple dosing throughout the day as they are short acting etc… typically a person is depressed and has anxiety which is why they are prescribed things like this and of course a depressed person is prone to abuse things like xanax alcohol etc… after 10mins of taking xanax one feels some short term relaxation and relief from anxiety symptoms. the problem is folks take them when not needed and doctors write lots of them but they are horribly abused and a physical tolerance occurs. so when disontinued the patient feels terrible! the effects of xanax are short like 3/4hrs versus the valiums/klonopins in the same family that last 8hrs or more. there is a medical use for this med but there are much better choices over xanax and doctors are finally realizing they do more damage than good. i was treated for panic attacks years ago after going through crisis after crisis i had to try an anti anxiety med etc.. xanax was terrible! i like the klonopin and valium they happened to work when i had horrible anxiety etc… im glad to have taken them in short term and quit thereafter…… xanax should be pulled of the market…. folks are dying on it…
