I have been so high functioning all my life that it took a lifetime to get a good diagnosis. I attended EA a few times, but it wasn’t for me, at least not at the time. I checked out offerings at the VA, but it looked like a format not optimal for true peer support. If anyone knows of a good support group close to Clairemont, San Diego, please reply.

But unfortunately, they don’t have any group in California.
There are the other 12-step groups for depression. But they are only for those with dual disorders – depression/bipolar AND an addiction to drugs and/or alcohol.
For truer peer support, have you tried a DBSA support group?
Those are the “Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance” groups – all of which are self-help (i.e., member-run) support groups.
