I mean compared to 100 years ago – and adjusting for population increases.

Gone up? You better believe it.
Transportation and Production are much better than in 1906.
International politics also plays a role. China supplies precursors to superlabs in Mexico. Those labs make things like Crystal Meth and then transport and sell them in the US. Its pretty bad.
