From personal experience I can say that I am truly sympathetic to your battle. I work with several people that tell me that food is NOT an addiction, but we know otherwise. Kicking the habit was the hardest thing I have ever done, and I really regret picking it back up again. I would rather take up crack heroin and meth with a chaser of nicotine and quit cold turkey than try to quit food again. But it can be done. the reason it is so hard is that you can’t quit food cold turkey. You can’t not eat, and to eat in portions significantly smaller than is needed to sustain a healthy weight is more detrimental to health than eating too much. I know how you feel, i weigh 355, close to the same boat, but I lost a lot of it, I was 375, then down to 315. I picked up the habit again, and it sucks. The thing I found works best is to wait until your next grocery shopping day. That day, go through your house and clean every bit of food out. It is all trash, this was very important symbolically for me. It represented a whole new lifestyle. Then go to your favorite grocery store and find healthy foods that come in individually wrapped portions. Also, it is very helpful to use a tool such as www.calorie-count.com to keep track of your intake. It would amaze you what you eat in a day if you just keep track of it. That site also has an analysis tool so that you can determine what is a healthy intake for you, as well as several helpful resources. All I can say is good luck, and keep the answers community posted, we can be a great supporting tool. By the way, there will be people who come along on this site and say really mean things about your question. Pay them no mind, they are like junk food, they just need to be tossed out and given no thought. The only comments that matter are the ones that are supportive. The first step to treating any addiction is realizing you have an addiction. Congratulations.
