Why do you think you are “hooked” on Percocet, after using them for only a couple of weeks, and they were prescribed to you, for pain relief? If you have developed a tolerance to the analgesic effects, and you find yourself having to take an extra dose or two to achieve adequate pain relief, that does not mean you are addicted to Percocet. Addiction is a psychological disease, that is characterized by drug-seeking behavior, taking drugs for other reasons than they were prescribed for, like to get “high”, continuing to take the drug despite adverse effects on your life, and other specific behaviors. You aren’t “hooked” on Percocet if you experience withdrawl symptoms. Withdrawals happen when your body is physically dependent on a drug, because of chronic drug use (even at the therapeutic, prescribed dose), and abrupt discontinuation causes negative side effects. This is not addiction. If you haven’t had any withdrawals after 5 days of taking Percocet, you aren’t physically dependent on it, and no, you would not become dependent from one dose. No one is going to become a “drug addict” after taking one pill. Calm down. The myths and misconceptions about the defintions of addiction, drug abuse, etc have most people scared, misinformed and afraid to seek adequate pain relief for fear of becoming “addicted” It is a subject I am very passionate about, so that’s why my answer is a novel, sorry, but am passing along my knowledge. And knowing is half the battle my friend.

If you have gone 5 days without taking a percocet, you are not addicted. If you had taken them for a long time and went through withdrawals…they would have been bad enough for you not to even consider taking them again. They are very addictive…don’t take them! The addiction WILL creep up on you without a doubt.
