Free Alcohol Detox Centers?

My boyfriend doesn’t have health insurance and he’s having A LOT of trouble quitting drinking.. he’s going through withdrawals and craving the alcohol really bad. He can’t afford to get help without insurance… is there anything such as free centers or assistance?
We live in wisconsin.

My advice is to contact your nearest social services or human services office. They will sometimes pay for chemical dependency treatment if a person is unable to pay for it and they have funds to pay for it. Unfortunately, states usually don’t fund county social services/human services very well for this, but it’s worth a shot.

You should also check with local hospitals that offer detox services to see if they have a charitable care program. Most hospitals that get federal money have to do some free care. Even if you can’t afford it, it is important that he get the care he needs! Detoxing one your own can be dangerous as well as difficult. They cannot just turn you away because you cannot pay.
