vicodin is used for pain relife for moderate pain. And yes there is a physical dependency on it when people take too much for too long of a period. It is meant for short term use.

Vicodin contains the drug hydrocodone, which is a painkiller used to treat moderate pain. It is primarilly prescribed in the USA to treat short term pain such as post-operative pain, or pain following an accident or injury (e.g. a badly broken leg) It is not common outside the USA and Canada. It can also be prescribed to manage some types of chronic (long-term) pain to deal with sudden increases in pain level.

There is a high risk of physical dependancy on Vicodin, but a low risk of psychological dependancy. What this means is that your body feels like it needs the drug and goes into withdrawl without it (which can involve very painful feeling of shaking, nausea etc) You can become addicted to the affects of Vicodin after a very short time.

I have been prescribed Vicodin to deal with a chronic pain condition. After only a few weeks of taking it i felt shaky if i didn’t take it for a day. Unfortunately my condition means i get painful flares every other day at least. I take Vicodin once a day, even if i don’t have pain, because the withdrawl if i don’t take it is very painful. There is no point going without and detoxing because when my condition flares up the next day i will just have to take the painkillers again. I don’t feel that Vicodin addiction causes me a problem- i only take one half dose a day when i don’t have bad pain. I don’t feel like i need it at all- i never crave it and never take more when i dont have pain. The dependancy is purely physical (I have severe Interstitial Cysytits with hunners ulcers)

Drug addiction if you are taking a narcotic without pain is wrong. But there is nothing wrong with taking prescribed painkillers to deal with pain. If you suffer with chronic pain, those painkillers are the only thing that gives you a little bit of relief and allows you to live your life. I work at a very responsible job, and thanks to vicodin i have never had to have a single day off sick in 3 years. More than 60% of people with my condition cannot work. Vicodin allows me to live a normal life as much as possible.
