Oxycodone Withdrawal?

Question by Earstealer: Oxycodone withdrawal?
I have been taking 15 mg of oxycodone almost everyday for six months. I would like to stop taking it because it doesn’t work like it used to and it makes my ears ring. It also seems to make me itchy.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
The pills were Dr. prescribed for chronic neck pain. I knew taking Oxycodone was wrong road to go down but I needed relief for the pain and they worked. Since then I tried shots in my neck, chiropractor. Surgery is my last option. Next I am trying physical rehab.

You’re body is pretty well addicted to it by now, so DON’T try to stop it suddenly! See your doctor and explain the situation. If he is one of those who think you’re just “drug seeking”, then go elsewhere. ANy responsible physician will want to see you off the oxycodone and will realize that going through painful withdrawal is not advisable. He/she will probably prescribe a tranquilizer like lorazepam or another benzodiazepine (however, those are addictive too).

Here’s a post from Yahoo Answers regarding this, in which Valium was given for opiate withdrawal. Personally, since Valium still has a longer plasma life than Xanax, you might try Klonopin (clonazepam) which is less likely to produce addiction (at least not as fast), since it does not give the “rush” of other benzos, and stays in the body longer. It also is the MOST effective in treating any panic disorder that may result while detoxing.

Here is an opposing viewpoint about clonazepam:

May people on benzos were given Clonidine (used for high blood pressure), and found it helpful. At the very least, it can control the hypertension you will experience during withdrawal. Here’s an article on it:

Your best bet for withdrawal is probably in a hospital or rehab setting. Otherwise, get your Dr. to “wean” you off it gradually wit another med., and go into short term counseling for coping skills, combined with other pain mgmnt., if that’s still a problem.

Hope this helps!
